This is a belated report on the Ian Hodgson relays that were held in Patterdale on the 7th October 2012. The reason for this is obvious to those who were there; for those who do not know: The event was the same well attended, well organised and well enjoyed day of competition and camaraderie that we have all come to expect. Unfortunately, this year it was overcast by the cloud that was the unfortunate death of the much liked and respected Darren Holloway. The delay in posting this report was out of respect to him, and a tribute of condolence and respect was posted on the FRA forum on behalf of the club by Nick Ray. On behalf of the lads, thank you Nick.
The club colours were flown proudly once more by our fell running comrades. While not able to equal our result of two years ago finishing 11th, we did manage 12th from 65 teams. With one under 18 and one over 60 in the team it was still a result to be proud of. Of the 8 man team, Andrew Turner deserves a special mention for his willingness to run at short notice. He stepped up to the mark with Sam Johnston and set the team up for the rest of the race by finishing their leg in 12th position. The rest of the team were: Brian Taylor, Scott Keough, Richard MᶜGrath, Gavin Pattinson, Nick Ray and Jackie Winn. Here’s looking forward to next year.
This year will always be remembered as “ The Darren Holloway-Ian Hodgeson Relays”!
