Hi, just a short note to let you all know that for 2015, Ellenborough AC have decided to withdraw from Team North Cumbria. The decision was made for the following reasons: Not enough athletes are willing /able to compete for the Team, the cost of membership is high (approximately £400-£500 per year) and cannot be justified for the off chance that one or two athletes “might” be able to attend.
If more athletes are interested in future, I have asked to be reconsidered for membership at that time.
The selection rules are that the minimum age group is U13, and only the highest performing athletes from each member club can be selected. Parental involvement at meetings is also a requirement.
Some of our past representatives of TNC have decided that they will look for higher level competition at open meetings at places like Blackpool and Gateshead. We will endeavour to let you all know about these open meetings so that you can do the same if you wish.
I would also like to remind you that Ellenborough AC is an Athletics Club, and that we pay for entry into the Cumbria League so that athletes have free entry to these events. The club scores points for athletes’ success and for volunteers who help on the day. We do expect everyone who is old enough (U11 onwards) to compete in three events at a minimum of one meeting. There are only four meetings in this league throughout the summer. After a long year of coaches and helpers giving up their time for free to coach and train the junior members, is this too much to ask?
Good luck for the coming season,
